4th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS FOR REVITALIZATION OF DEGRADED AREAS

Degraded and post-industrial areas pose a serious problem for many European regions, particularly for cities of Central Europe as they decrease the attractiveness and competitiveness of these regions. Revitalization of degraded areas may significantly contribute to the economic development of the regions as well as to solve many social and environmental problems. More and more examples show that the problematic areas gradually become areas for potential development.

Another equally important issue is the urban context of revitalization. It is connected with the strong emphasis on the role of towns in creating sustainable development both in national and EU dimension. The capability of using the industrial potential, in that the ability to transform post-industrial areas and facilities to perform new functions is one of the determinants of modern approach to regional development.

Using examples of Polish and foreign sites methods for management of degraded areas will be presented, i.e.: remediation technologies, organizational solutions, financing options and restructurization of industrial facilities.

The invitation is extended to state and private organizations as well as local governments involved in the process of revitalization of degraded areas, particularly post-industrial sites, i.e. local and regional authorities, site owners, companies dealing with soil and groundwater remediation and land reclamation, construction companies, academia, R&D units, experts, consultants, banks, and insurance companies from Poland and abroad.

During the  Conference laureates of the National Competition for Research Studies on Revitalization of Degraded Areas – REVITARE will be presented. The Competition is addressed to students and young scientists and the honorary patronage of the Competition has been taken by the Minister of the Environment, Minister of Science and Higher Education and the Students’ Parliament of the Republic of Poland.
