This workshop uniquely integrates real-world perspectives of several prominent organizations deeply involved in addressing some of Europe’s most pressing contaminated site remediation challenges. Environmental regulators from EU (Italy, Czech Republic, Denmark, others) and US, site engineers and remediation consultants from EU and US, academics, and leading technology providers have been recruited to share their current best practices on a range of important topics affecting impacted soil, sediment, and groundwater sites. “Sustainability” has become a widely-used term in the environmental industry, yet often with varied meanings. For purposes of this workshop, participants will explore sustainable developments in risk assessment, forensics, fundamental research, and innovative engineering applications for both traditional and emerging contaminants. We will examine progress with recent advances in environmental biotechnologies, monitoring tools, remedial design and management; the interaction of bioremediation with other remedial approaches; and European applications of bioremediation. The workshop will be conducted by EU & US industry and regulatory representatives, with a stated goal to compare different regulations and best practices in order to identify the best sustainable solutions to adopt in the environmental field.
